War Of 1812 Andrew Jackson. The War of 1812 gave him the national recognition he would later need to win the presidency. He had never served active duty and he had never led troops in combat.
Politician and Major General of the Tennessee militia at the time in which the war broke out being one of the activists of western expansion he eagerly offered 2500 volunteers to the United States Army. After winning a major battle in this war Jackson was promoted to major general in the US. He was quarrelsome fought duels and criticised the American government for declaring war on Britain.
Would again go to war with the British Empire.
